Assignment Week #4

What I am reading and my rating:

I am reading the “Zombie War” by Max Brooks and it has gotten very sad. The part I’m at right now they are interviewing this guy that couldn’t save his family. When a zombie came in they had guns and shot them but the saliva from the zombie is also poisonous.  A man’s wife did not want to become a zombie so his wife killed herself.  The man just escaped a big horde of zombies.

My rating:
I will rate the part a 5 because I really think it’s an awesome book perfect for the movie. The only thing is if they make the movie, they shouldn’t make it boring by only interviewing people the whole time. It might possibly ruin a great book.  Anyways I would recommend this book to people that like sad, scary, suspensful books.

What am I waiting for:
I'm waiting to find out how he escaped the zombie horde. It's not easy to get past the zombies.  He is a survivor right now.

Reading blog of the week:

It is a reading blog and what Linda does, she reads the books and does a review on them. I think this is nice because it is better to see someone else’s reviews instead of just the back of the book reviews.

Other blog of the week:

Since I love cooking, I searched for a healthy cooking blog and I have found one.  It’s a very healthy blog. Amy posts a picture with the recipe so you get to see what you will be cooking.   I thought this site was nice because not a lot of families make healthy meals everyday. My family started having healthy low fat meals in December.   Here is the name of Amy’s blog page: http://cookingwithamy.blogspot.com/

 Grapefruit Radicchio Salad

My challenge:

The author’s site is Stephenie Meyer.

Stephenie MeyerRelevance of this Site: The author keeps her fans up to date on the things she is doing and provides links to other sites that sell her books and stuff.

The layout of her site is : Her landing page or home page where her brother Seth provides updates on her books and her Twilight movies. I think Stephenie is trying to sell her series on her page and  her page seems to only revolves around Twilight and her new Illustrated Guide.  It’s almost like a blog site.

The other sections of her website include: bio (where she provides a background about herself); Twilight Series (where she has information about the books); The Host (a new book not in the Twilight Series that is being turned into a movie.  She seems excited about this.); Other Projects (where she shows how the book covers were selected); Calendar (nothing there); Movies (showing what books have been turned into movies, with links to amazon.com; and Books and Gear (where she shows you where to buy her books and stuff).

Quality of the site: Mid quality
Navigation: This is good and things are easy to find.
Searchability: This is not good.  You are not able to search this site.
Site Structure: This is good and the site tabs make sense.
Content: There is some content but not a lot. I would like to see more options such as things for kids, things we didn’t know about the characters, and information on the cast in her movies.

Why people should visit the site: When I first got on the website I saw big pictures and lots of links some for selling her stuff.  If you like the series of the books and want to know other stuff coming out, like the Illustrated Guide, this site is helpful.

Assignment Week #3

What I’m reading and my rating:
I am reading the book called “Zombie War” by Max Brooks. The part I’m in right now is interviewing they go to different countries and see what has happened during the zombie war. They are in Antarctica and they have thought of a vaccine for the disease.  They  called the vaccine “African rabies”.

My rating:
I would the rate the part I’m at right now a 4 because it is good but it’s not like a good “get right into the book” kind of good.  It’s like what’s going to happen next book. You have to read a lot about before you get into the book.  It is like a movie theatre in you brain when your reading it -  I highly recommend it.

What I’m waiting for:

I am waiting for Harry Potter Part Two (the movie) because I loved the Harry Potter series.  It has very stunning special effects especially the magic scenes. But the biggest part I hate about the two movies “Breaking Dawn” and “Harry Potter” is splitting the movies so there is a part one and part two. So I promised my self if I am going to watch them I will watch them right after another. Because if I watched it in November and the second one comes out Jul, then I would forget the first part and I wouldn’t like the movie as much.

Reading blog of the week:

I wonder if there will be a Zombie War 2 book. If they continued it maybe it would be more popular, like I am legend - awesome. But they could have made more money by making the finish like one of those books that make you have to read the next one. Even though I haven’t finished zombie war I still think they should make another one. If you ever noticed that books or movies with more than one series makes a lot more money than just one book.

Other blog of the week:

I love cooking, so I was searching for a cooking blog. I have found one.  The blog name is “Memorie Di Angelina”  It is an Italian cooking blog and I thought it was fascinating to look at new style of cooking from my everyday stuff. They have a lot of fascinating stuff and recipes. Each entry is like a new recipe.  Last week’s blog entry was about pancakes (not sweet but one with black pepper and parsley and no flour) that I am going to try to make.  Actually its just like an egg omelette and Italians call that a pancake.

This week’s challenge: Freezer books:

Mocking Jay

I thought this was a freezer book because it takes so long to get to the good parts. I literally wanted to put it in the freezer or garbage.  I was almost ready to just stop reading that book and move on. It had to be at least 150 pages before I even started getting into it. But when it got to the good parts I couldn’t stop reading.
Is there anything for landfill hiding under your fridge?

Zombie war: The oral history of the zombie war

It is a good book. But it’s more of an interviewing book. I want to put it into the freezer because it gets very good for like 10 pages then gets really boring for like 15 pages.  It’s a very weird book. It tells you what happen during the zombie war .

Nose of Jupiter
I read this book in grade 4 and it was horrible because it was so boring.  I don’t like being forced to read a specific book.  It was definite freezer material.

Assignment Week #2

What I'm reading right now and my rating:
Right now I am reading a book called “World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie Wars”. My mom’s friend recommended it to me and I really like it. It’s about an infection that is spreading around the world and started in China. I have just started it so I do not know a lot of the story but if you like books that are scary and a thriller you would really enjoy it. I’m at the part where they just found out there are infections, and they have to stop people from going across the border.  The problem is there are 1 billion people in China and there are already 35 million people infected in China.  It’s an impossible task, and it has already spread because they didn’t realize there was a problem before it was too late.  The viral infection is spread by bite from zombies.  The zombies were created by scientific testing on humans and one of these tests resulted in the creation of a zombie.  There are no main characters yet.  The story right now is being told through reporters questioning people from all over the globe.  So far questioning has happened in China, Greece, and Brazil.  I’m scoring this book so far a 5 because it has so much detail and when you read it you get so thrilled from what you think is going to happen next.

What I’m waiting for:
World War Z movie is coming out July 2012 and after just reading a bit of the book it will be an amazing movie.  The Director Marc Forster is a perfect director. He was the Director of Quantum of Solace (the James Bond Movie) and that was an action movie.  In the book,  I’m interested in finding out: do they do kill the zombies? or try to find a cure and don’t mind them? It’s a hard decision considering that if it has infected China there could possibly be billions of zombie.  If the movie is as good as “I am legend” with Will Smith, I'd really enjoy it.

Reading blog of the week:
It seems like every book I start to read there is always a movie in production. It’s crazy but the information of “World War Z” the movie is in this link: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0286975/. It shows what movies that Marc Forster has done so far. I don’t think its going to be like a kids movie.  I imagine if Gary Ross was the director he would mess up the whole movie.

Other blog of the week:
I am addicted to this show on discovery channel called “River Monsters”.  It will definitely make you think twice before swimming in freshwater rivers. The latest show I saw had a big problem.  It takes place in Asia with bull sharks going up the freshwater rivers and attacking people. The weird thing about the bull shark is that it can switch is gills to be able to breath from freshwater. This link will show you:

My weekly challenge:
Music that represents my past book, “The Mocking Jay” (because it was the last book I read in full).

Part 1 – It was about being under ground, being part of the rebellion and that Katniss’ home has been destroyed the day she went to the games. I felt sad, sympathy for the main character.

The song chosen for this part of the book is: Rebellion (Lies) Arcade Fire.

Part 2 – Katniss became the hero for all the districts and everyone loved her, mostly against her will.  I felt terrified and stressed for her and all that responsibility.

The song chosen for this part of the book is: "All the Right Moves" by One Republic.

Part 3 – Trying to get Peeta, her lover back.  I felt like Katniss was determined to get Peeta back, even willing to risk her life for him, and realized that she really did love him.

The song chosen for this part of the book is: “You’re the One” by Hoobastank

Part 4 – Katniss killed President Snow after he was responsible for killing her sister.  She felt happy to have killed him and avenged her sister’s death but it’s also very sad.
The song chosen for this part of the book is: “Somewhere Else” by Jim Bryson

Assignment Week #1

What am I reading right now and my rating:

I just finished reading the Hunger Game series by Suzanne Collins, and the Mockingjay was the last book.  If you like adventure, mystery and war it's a good book.  Parts of it are about a love story but the best parts were the mystery (unless you like love stories).

My rating is: 4

I scored it  a 4 because it didn't get to the good parts very fast.  It was mostly about Katniss and her feelings.  It wasn't until maybe 150 pages before I started getting into it but once I was in I was hooked.

My rating scale:
1 - Not impressed with story
2 - Okay but needs improvement
3 - Good story but needs help
4 - Really Good and has movie potential
5 - Excellent and recommended for others to read and would be a great movie

What I am waiting for:

My mom asked friends at work what other books might be of interest to me now that I have read the Hunger games and they told us to read "World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War".

Reading Blog of the Week:
When I was reading The Hunger Games series I thought it would be a good idea to make it into a movie so I checked it on the imdb (the movie data base) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1392170/. In this link you will find information on the cast and who creates the movie.  Gary Ross will be the Director, but Gary Ross, in the past films, they have been all kids movies. So I think Gary Ross will make the movie too cheezy. They should have chosen another director because the book was about killing and love in the future after the world was split into 13 districts and a capital. Based on his past experience they have all been kids movies. I really like The Last Airbender and I think the director of The Last Airbender  should have gotten the director part to make the movie's special affects.

Other Blog of the Week:
I am interested in hearing about weird news of the world, survival stories, cooking and anything to do with fishing.  My brother came home and talked about something he learned at work this morning - dead birds falling from the sky all over the world by the thousands.  So I looked it up and this it what I found:

http://www.upi.com/Top_News/World-News/2011/01/08/Doves-fall-from-sky-in-Italy/UPI-66861294501810/
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newsvideo/weirdnewsvideo/8237149/Birds-fall-dead-from-US-sky.html
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/sweden/8243222/More-dead-bird-mystery-in-Sweden.html

How can thousands of these birds die randomly at the same times around the world?
My theory is that since humans are polluting the world I think the world is giving us a punishment by killing wildlife.  When these birds were found, they died normaly no infections or anything explain that. Maybe the breathed in too much cold air and were exhausted and simply fell from the sky.

After searching some more (Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVDEH9wdgZc) maybe when they tried to poison one group of birds, like the starlings in the Youtube video, they actually ended up killing more than just the starlings.  Stupid people.

Challenge of the Week: Book to Food
The book I was reading was The Hunger Games I thought that was a scary book so I will relate it to the disgusting brussel sprout the world mosts disgusting food. The Hunger Games series relates to it because it's scary, only crazy people love them and there a big mystery to them: why would mini cabbages taste so different to fully grown cabbages?
